About this Product
“When all of your wishes are granted, many of your dreams will be destroyed.”
– The Man That You Fear by Marilyn Manson
What can I say? If there was ever an influence on who I became as a artist, it was certainly Marilyn Manson. Growing up, I took solace in his music. The first song I ever heard from him was “Down in the Park”, a cover of a song by Gary Numan. From there, it was the song “Sweet Dreams”, and the combination of the Portrait of an American Family album and the Smells Like Children. He was shocking, in your face and empowering. And while I loved the controversial music I was listening to at an arguably too young age, I knew I had found a favorite musician that could put into song the angst, loneliness and pain I felt growing up.
This is a piece I did of Marilyn Manson, depicted as he was during the Antichrist Superstar era of his career. The image is overlaid with lyrics from the song “Cryptorchid”, and features designs matching the album’s booklet. Antichrist Superstar remains one of my all time favorite albums, and my personal favorite of theirs. It;s an album I draw inspiration from, and can listen to at any time. The song “Man That You Fear” is one that hits close to home for me. The lyrics describe how I often feel, and is my favorite off the album. Almost brings tears to my eyes every time I listen to it.
